Users of Claude AI reported widespread disruptions on Wednesday, with many facing slow responses, login failures, and repeated error messages while using the chatbot. Complaints increased on Downdetector, crossing 1,400 reports at the peak. Anthropic said it is investigating issues affecting Claude.ai and Claude Code, though the Claude API continued to function normally.

Service outage

Many users reported problems while using Claude on both desktop and mobile devices. The issues started when users noticed that the chatbot was taking a long time to respond to prompts. Some users said the system did not reply at all. Others received an error message that said “Something went wrong” and asked them to try again. In several cases, users waited for a response but the system failed to complete the request. Reports about the problem quickly appeared on Downdetector. Around 10:29 a.m. ET, the number of complaints started rising. At one point, more than 1,400 users reported problems with the service.

People affected

People using free accounts also reported problems while sending prompts to the chatbot. Users with paid subscriptions said they faced similar issues. Some said their prompts took longer than usual to process before the system returned an error message.

Anthropic confirms

Anthropic confirmed the issue through its official service status page. The company said it was investigating problems affecting Claude.ai and Claude Code. Because of the disruption, some users were unable to log into their accounts. Others were able to sign in but experienced slower responses while using the chatbot. The company also reported a separate problem related to signing in from new devices. In some cases, users received an error because the system had trouble sending login emails through certain email providers. However, Anthropic said that the Claude API was not affected by the outage. Anthropic said its teams are continuing to monitor the issue and will provide updates as the investigation continues.
