Pop star Chappell Roan announced Monday she is no longer represented by Wasserman, the talent agency led by Casey Wasserman, citing a need for representation that aligns with her moral values. This departure marks the latest public backlash against Wasserman, who also serves as head of the Los Angeles Olympics organizing committee, following the release of the Epstein files. Roan stated her decision was driven by a belief that no artist, agent, or employee should be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict with their moral values.

"As of today, I am no longer represented by Wasserman, the talent agency led by Casey Wasserman," Roan posted on Instagram.

She further elaborated on her reasoning, stating, "I hold my teams to the highest standards and have a duty to protect them as well."

"No artist, agent or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values. I have deep respect and appreciation for the agents and staff who work tirelessly for their artists and I refuse to passively stand by," Roan added.

Roan emphasized the importance of ethical representation for artists.

"Artists deserve representation that aligns with their values and supports their safety and dignity. This decision reflects my belief that meaningful change in our industry requires accountability and leadership that earns trust."

The backlash against Wasserman stems from his presence on convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein's plane in 2002 and the release of suggestive emails from 2003 between him and accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell. Wasserman issued an apology on January 31, expressing deep sorrow for any association with Epstein and Maxwell, and stating he was on the plane as part of a humanitarian trip.

Several artists and bands have publicly called for Wasserman to step down from his agency. This includes Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino and Beach Bunny. Wasserman's agency also represents prominent figures such as Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, and Pharrell.

The controversy has also extended to the political arena, with Los Angeles politicians urging Wasserman to step away from his role as head of the Olympics organizing committee.

The situation at Wasserman is evolving, with other artists reportedly considering severing ties with the agency. Additionally, some of the company's agents are reportedly exploring the possibility of spinning off the music representation business.

Wasserman did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Monday evening. The release of the Epstein files has led to further scrutiny, with lawmakers stating that a review of the files has yielded six new individuals who are "likely incriminated."
