Cameron talks about the new film
James Cameron says
Avatar: Fire and Ash is a major step forward for the franchise. The film builds on the 2009 original and the 2023 sequel,
The Way of Water. It takes audiences back to Pandora with new settings, action scenes, and tribes. Cameron called it “a culmination” of the story so far. A new featurette shows Cameron guiding actors on a motion-capture stage. They wear tracking suits to capture their movements and expressions. Sam Worthington returns as Jake Sully, now a Na’vi leader, while Zoe Saldaña reprises her role as Neytiri. Kate Winslet and Sigourney Weaver also appear in key scenes.
Technology used
The featurette highlights the technology behind the film. Cameron says new tools help create larger set pieces and more detailed environments. He explained that the film includes volcanic battles and other complex scenes that require precise motion capture. Two new tribes are introduced: the Wind Traders and the fire-wielding Ash People. These groups are central to the film’s story. Cameron said advanced motion-capture technology makes it possible to show their culture and actions realistically. Zoe Saldaña said the film is bigger than
The Way of Water. “Fire and Ash is going to be an experience unlike anything,” she said. Cameron added that the technology lets the team “bring people on a new journey.”
Cast shares experience of new technology
Kate Winslet said the new technology helps Cameron create the world he imagines. She explained that motion-capture tools allow actors to perform with precise detail, even on empty stages. Sigourney Weaver said the suits, with tracking markers, help actors stay grounded in the scenes. She said, “This technical world makes it possible to go out on an empty stage and ground us." Cameron also confirmed that
Fire and Ash will run longer than the 2023 sequel. The additional time allows for a more detailed story and bigger action sequences.
