Jessica Chastain voiced her disagreement with Apple TV+ for delaying the release of The Savant following Charlie Kirk’s assassination. The political thriller, adapted from a 2019 Cosmopolitan article, was set to debut Friday. Apple cited “careful consideration” but gave no clear reason. Chastain, who stars and produces, hopes the series will soon reach audiences.
The Oscar-winning actress Jessica Chastain disagrees with Apple on the company's decision to postpone the release of the political thriller series “The Savant” after the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk.
"I wanted to reach out and let you know that we’re not aligned on the decision to pause the release of The Savant," said Chastain in her Instagram post on Wednesday.
Chastain, who is also the executive producer of the series, plays the role of a suburban mother of two and a military veteran working for the anti-hate alliance, which combats domestic extremism. She is famous for her works in the movies “The Help” and “Interstellar”. Chastain received an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2022 for her performance in the biopic “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
The Savant is an adaptation of the 2019 article “Is it possible to stop a mass shooting before it happens?, which was published in Cosmopolitan magazine.
The first two episodes of the series were scheduled to debut on Friday, but Apple decided to postpone the series release after what the TV calls " careful consideration. "We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date," said Apple in a statement to Variety.
However, Apple did not clearly mention an exact reason or specific consideration for the delay in the release.
“‘The Savant’ is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever,” Chastain wrote. “I remain hopeful the show will reach audiences soon. Until then, I’m wishing safety and strength for everyone.”
