Michael B. Jordan reflects on career highs, Thomas Crown remake, and why empathy matters in 2026

Michael B. Jordan is having one of the busiest and most meaningful phases of his career, and he knows it.

Speaking at the Palm Springs International Film Awards on Sunday, Jordan said the recognition he’s been receiving lately feels both exciting and overwhelming. Fresh off a year spent in Europe directing, producing, and starring in Amazon MGM Studios’ new take on The Thomas Crown Affair, the actor barely had time to rest before being honored multiple times, including an Icon Award in Palm Springs for his work in Sinners, Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller from Warner Bros.Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Jordan said, “It feels good, but it’s also surreal in a way.” he continued, “Even this award tonight, I’m honored to be recognized in this way amongst so many other talented actors and great performers throughout this year.”

Jordan admitted that The Thomas Crown Affair was a massive undertaking and was a lot of work. The film, which was shot across several European locations, is the biggest production he’s led so far. He said he grew up loving both earlier versions of the movie and wanted to put his own spin on the story. He also described the new version of the film as stylish, fun, and full of surprises. The movie cast includes Adria Arjona, Kenneth Branagh, Aubrey Plaza, Lily Gladstone, and Danai Gurira, among others.“It’s a big movie. It’s international. It’s sexy. It’s a lot of fun. A lot of twists and turns. It’s going to have some things that I think audiences won’t be expecting that might be a nice treat for them,” he said.

Jordan also shared his thoughts on the industry buzz surrounding Netflix’s proposed deal involving Warner Bros., the studio behind Sinners. While he didn’t dive into business details, he made it clear that movies belong in theaters. “Movies need to be seen on a big screen. That communal experience is what makes Sinners so great,” Jordan said. “That’s why I love going to movies,” He also added, how going to the theater with people and sharing emotions makes the film feel special and changes the experience altogether.

Looking ahead to 2026, Jordan said his focus is on personal growth. His goal for the year is simple but important. Speaking to the media, he said, “For me, this year I will try to always lead with my best foot forward and continue to be kind and show empathy to people. Empathy is something that we lose a lot of, and I think the world needs more of it nowadays. That’s what I’m championing this year.”
