Indiana Fever secure Aliyah Boston with historic extension under new WNBA performance based contract rule
The Indiana Fever signed Aliyah Boston to a four-year, $6.3 million extension under a new WNBA rule rewarding early career excellence. Boston, the No. 1 pick in 2023 and Rookie of the Year, becomes the first player to benefit from this provision after establishing herself as a consistent All-Star. She has been central to Indiana’s rise, helping the team stay competitive despite injuries and emerging as one of the league’s most reliable frontcourt players.
The deal signals the franchise’s long-term commitment to building around Boston and Caitlin Clark as cornerstone stars. Boston has already made history within the organization, setting records in rebounds and double-doubles, including 17 in a single season. With improved pay structures and a stronger core, the Fever are positioning themselves as serious contenders, aiming to take the next step toward a championship in the coming seasons.
The Indiana Fever have made a big move by securing Aliyah Boston on a new long-term deal after her strong start in the league. The extension comes under the WNBA’s new rule, where young players can get rewarded early by the team for their outstanding performances. According to the ESPN reports, the deal is set to be for four years and is worth about $6.3 million.

Aliyah Boston was drafted by the Indiana Fever in 2023 as the No. 1 draft pick and also won the Rookie of the Year award, which has already made her one of the most important players for Indiana. For the last three seasons, Boston has been an All-Star and continues to improve each year. Despite Indiana’s roster dealing with injuries last season, she helped the team push close to the Finals.

“I’m super blessed and grateful for this opportunity and to continue my journey here with the Fever,” Boston said. “I’m excited for the future ahead.”

The new rule allows teams to extend rookie contracts if players reach top levels early in their career, like making All-WNBA teams or winning MVP. Boston is the first player in league history to get this kind of deal under the rule.

Indiana is now looking good with a strong core, Boston and Caitlin Clark are expected to lead the team for the next few seasons as we can see the team clearly building around them as they aim to become title contenders.

Boston has already made her mark in franchise history. She ranks among the top players in rebounds, blocks, and double-doubles. Last season alone, she recorded 17 double-doubles, which is the best in Fever history for a single season. Overall, she is averaging 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in her career so far.

“We’re thrilled to reward her and keep her here for the long run,” said general manager Amber Cox.

With training camp starting on Sunday, the Fever will look to build on last season and take the next step with Boston and Clark leading the way.
