Morant's tattoo: A bold statement or desperate plea amidst Grizzlies struggles?
Ja Morant has solidified his allegiance to the Memphis Grizzlies, making a powerful comeback against the Orlando Magic after his injury. With a tattoo of the team's logo etched on his skin, Morant makes it clear that his commitment runs deep. He praised the unwavering support from fans, expressing how playing the game serves as a healing outlet for him.
Ja Morant, after a dominant performance in a 126-109 victory over the Orlando Magic, addressed recent trade speculation by stating his desire to remain with the Memphis Grizzlies, citing a tattoo of the team logo as proof of his commitment.
Morant returned to the lineup Sunday after a six-game absence due to a right calf injury, contributing 24 points and 13 assists. He emphasized his loyalty to the team.
“I’ve got a logo on my back, so that should tell you exactly where I want to be,”
Morant's presence provided a significant boost to the Grizzlies, who had only secured three wins in their previous ten games. This victory followed a loss in Berlin where Morant sat out the first game of a European doubleheader.
“If anybody in here knows me, I’m a very loyal guy,” He expressed his appreciation for the fan support he received in London. Playing basketball is therapeutic for him, allowing him to showcase his capabilities on the court.
“Just being able to play basketball, it’s very therapeutic for me,”
“I know what I'm capable of out there on the court and I was able to show that tonight.
“It was big-time, walking off and representing Memphis is what it’s all about.”
The Grizzlies established a substantial 33-point lead in the first half against the Magic, a lead they managed to hold onto for the win. This contrasted with their previous game in Berlin, where they squandered a 20-point advantage.
“That’s just credit to coach putting us in the best spots possible and then just me being Ja and wind up making the right play whether it’s passing or scoring,”
“We got into a great rhythm early, got a big lead, after that it's just managing.”
Morant, who is 26 years old, is currently earning approximately $39.4 million this season. He is in the third year of a five-year contract valued at $197.2 million.
