Jalen Johnson powered the Hawks past the Jazz with a dominant triple-double of 31 points, 18 rebounds, 14 assists, and seven steals in a 132–122 win. Atlanta, playing without Trae Young and Kristaps Porzingis, hit a season-high 24 threes, including career nights from Onyeka Okongwu and Vit Krejci. Strong ball movement produced 36 assists as the Hawks secured their fourth straight victory.
Jalen Johnson earned his third career triple-double after posting 31 points, 18 rebounds, 14 assists, and 7 steals in Thursday night's game. He led the Atlanta Hawks to victory, sealing a 132-122 win over the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City.
The Atlanta Hawks are playing without their point guard, Trae Young, who sprained his MCL in the game against the Brooklyn Nets last month. However, the team has still won four straight games going 8-5. The Hawks also registered 24 three-pointers, the most made by any NBA team this season.
Onyeka Okongwu, who hasn't made more than four 3-pointers in a single NBA game, had the best three-point shooting game of his career and was 8 for 14, which led him to score his career-high 32 points.
Vit Krejci's early 5 for 5 from beyond the arc helped Atlanta set a franchise record with 15 3-pointers in the first half. Krejci finished the game with 20 points by adding one 3 in the second half of the game.
Utah’s Lauri Markkanen posted 40 points, converting 15 out of the 25 shots he attempted, and the rookie ace Bailey contributed a career best 21 points while Keyonte George scored 19 for Utah, which fell to 4-8.
The Hawks clinched the victory after scoring 8 straight points in the final minutes of the game while the Jazz scored nil.
This win comes despite the Hawks losing their key players. Trae Young has been sidelined for two weeks after injuring his MCL and is only set to return next month, while Kristaps Porzingis missed the game against the Utah Jazz to rest.
Playing without a ball dominant point guard the Hawks spread the ball around instead of one player having possession, resulting in better ball movement, which led them to record 36 assists in Thursday night's game.
The game was disrupted due to a basket repair issue and was delayed for more than 10 minutes.
The Atlanta Hawks continue to remain successful despite the injuries and will finish their four-game road trip on Sunday in Phoenix.
