The Michigan women's basketball team blew out Syracuse 81-55 in the Hall of Fame women’s showcase at Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Te’Yala Delfosse, the Michigan sophomore, recorded her career high 21 points coming off the bench. She went 8 for 11 from the field and took three rebounds in the 19 minutes she was on the floor. Olivia Olson missed her second consecutive double-double, finishing with 18 points and eight rebounds, while senior Brooke Quarles Daniel added eight points and five rebounds to help the no 6-ranked Michigan establish victory.
Along with Delfosse’s consecutive 5 points, Michigan scored 11 unanswered points in the final minutes of the first quarter. Shy Hawkins' basket at the beginning of the second quarter cut the deficit to 12 points, but a three-pointer and an assist from the sophomore guard Syla Swords gave the Wolverines a 38-21 lead at halftime.
Even after 13 offensive rebounds during the second half, Syracuse failed to stop Michigan from scoring. The Wolverines were ahead by 20 points in the third quarter after Olson's basket and Mika holloways three three-pointer.
Senior guard Laila Phelia led Syracuse with 13 points while both Uche Izoje and Dominique Darius had scored 10points apiece.
Laila Phelia previously played for Michigan in her first three seasons. She played a total of 88 games at Michigan and led the 2023-24 scoring for the Wolverines by averaging 14.1 points.
Michigan will play against Detroit Mercy on Wednesday, and Syracuse faces Howard on Sunday at home.
