Titans get injury relief on Cam Ward as franchise begins key coaching search after rough season
The Tennessee Titans received a rare positive update as rookie quarterback Cam Ward’s shoulder injury is not expected to need surgery. Interim coach Mike McCoy said reports have been encouraging after Ward missed the second half of the season finale. As Ward recovers, the Titans begin a crucial offseason, starting a head coaching search while rebuilding after back-to-back 3–14 seasons with draft capital and cap space on their side.
The Tennessee Titans finally got a bit of good news after a rough season. Rookie quarterback Cam Ward received positive feedback about the condition of his throwing shoulder after suffering an injury in the season finale. The interim coach, Mike McCoy, said the early reports regarding Cam’s injury have been encouraging.

Ward missed the second half of the final game due to sprained shoulders, but doctors have told him surgery is not needed at this point. He said the update has brought relief not just to him, but to the entire organization.

“There is relief for myself, for the building and the training staff, they are going to get it right,” Ward said, speaking about the injury. “Continue to walk me through the process of what I need to do to get better and get back on the field.”

While Ward’s health is trending in the right direction, the Titans now turn their focus to a major decision off the field. General manager Mike Borgonzi begins his first head coaching search after the team finished another difficult season. Tennessee has gone 3-14 in back-to-back years and has struggled to find stability since moving on from Mike Vrabel.

McCoy, who took over as interim coach, said he believes the pieces are in place for improvement and made it clear he’d like to stay with the franchise.

“The foundation’s here. You’ve got to continue to improve the roster as you go on, but they’ve got a very bright future here,” said Mike McCoy, the interim head coach of the Tennessee Titans.

Ward remained one of the major positives in the tough season. He is the no one overall pick and has started every game. Ward threw for 3100 yards and recorded 15 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He also holds the franchise rookie award for passing.

The offensive line showed progress late in the season, especially as the Titans leaned more on the run game. However, the secondary remains a major concern after multiple trades and injuries, leaving the defense thin at defensive back.

Tennessee is heading into the offseason comfortably after having the fourth overall pick in the 2026 draft and the most salary cap space in the league. The Titans will next look into hiring the right coach, move on from expensive contracts that haven’t worked out, and continue rebuilding around Ward.

After another losing year, the Titans are hoping this offseason finally marks the start of a real turnaround.
