UConn finishes undefeated regular season, extends streak to 47 with rout of St. John’s

The UConn Huskies sealed another victory and closed its regulars seasons final game on Sunday night by defeating St. John’s Red Storm 85-49 in Madison Square Garden, New York.

With this win The number one ranked Huskies mark their 47th straight win and also tied with the 2013-15 UConn team for recording the fifth longest winning streak in Division 1 women’s basketball.

Huskies star shooter Azzi Fudd, who played her final regular season game, led the scoring with 14 points, while Allie Ziebell had 13 points, and both Serah Williams and Sarah Strong finished with 11 points each.

The Huskies head coach, Geno Auriemma said, “UConn it’s much different than playing somewhere else,” he added. “It’s not easy when you’re expected to win every single game, and if you do lose, it’s because there’s something wrong with you, not because the other team played great.”

This game drew 9,612 fans to the arena, with the majority cheering for the Huskies. This is UConn’s 11th undefeated regular season in the program’s history, and it posted a perfect conference record for the 13th time overall.

St. John's was led by Jailah Donald, who scored eight points. St John's also had three of the other players score 7 points each. The red storm will enter the conference tournament as the No. 6 seed and will face Xavier Musketeers on March 6.

The UConn Huskies have 67 consecutive wins in the Big East tournament and have not lost a single game in conference play for the past three seasons. The Huskies will be the no.1 seed for the conference tournament, which is set to begin on March 6th in Connecticut.

Huskies have been in great form throughout this season, and statistically this is one of the most dominant teams the program has ever produced, but its legacy will be defined by its performance in March.
