In the third quarter, the lead just kept growing as the Huskies fed off the steals to make several easy fast-break points. By that point, the Huskies were already up 32 points off turnovers.
“Our pressure was really, really good,” UConn head coach Geno Auriemma said. We made Providence play way, way way faster than they usually play.
Providence fell to 14-15 overall and 7-11 in the Big East. Payton Dunbar scored nine points in the loss, snapping the Friars four-game winning streak.
The loudest cheer of the day wasn't for a basket. UConn president Radenka Maric told fans Monday's classes would be canceled because of the snowstorm. The players loved the idea and the crowd agreed.
