UConn stuns Duke with last second three to complete dramatic comeback and reach Final Four

The UConn Huskies men's basketball team pulled off one of the craziest wins of the tournament, defeating the Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team 73-72 with a last second shot to reach the Final Four. Freshman Braylon Mullins hit a deep three with just 0.4 seconds left on the clock, finishing a huge comeback after being down big early.

During the first half of the match UConn trailed by 19 points, but slowly fought back. They struggled from the three pointer line for most of the night, but kept pushing and stayed close in the second half. With seconds left, a loose ball near midcourt gave them one final chance.

Head coach Dan Hurley decided not to call a timeout and trusted his players in the moment. “It just felt like the window where you’ve just got to let March Madness take over,” he said, letting the chaos play out.

After a deflection by Silas Demary Jr., Mullins got the ball, passed it once, got it back, and launched a long shot from well beyond the three point line. It went straight in, giving UConn the win and sending the crowd into shock.

Duke, which was led by Cameron Boozer, had controlled most of the game and was close to closing it out and moving to the final four. But a late mistake while trying to avoid a foul gave UConn the chance they needed. Head coach Jon Scheyer struggled to explain the loss. speaking to the reporters after the game he said, “I don’t have the words.”

UConn now moves on to face Illinois Fighting Illini men's basketball in the Final Four, keeping alive their push for another national title.
