UConn Women’s Basketball No.1, Texas No.2, Louisville Biggest Jump in AP Poll

UConn remains undefeated after defeating USC and retains the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25 Women’s Basketball Poll with 24 first-place votes. Texas sits at No.2. Louisville posts the biggest jump to No.16. The Big Ten leads with nine teams, the SEC has eight, while UConn and Princeton are the sole representatives of the Big East and Ivy League, respectively.
The University of Connecticut remains undefeated after taking down the University of Southern California on Sunday. UConn continues to hold its No. 1 position in the Associated Press's top 25 women’s basketball poll after receiving 24 first-place votes out of 32 from the national media panel.
With this, the Huskies have made 646 appearances in the poll and are tied with Stanford for the third most in poll history, behind Tennessee, which was ranked 801 times, and Texas, 649 times.
The University of Texas was ranked No.2 in the AP poll after receiving the remaining 8 first-place votes. South Carolina, UCLA, and LSU continued to stay in the next three spots in the poll.
Michigan was ranked sixth, followed by Maryland at seventh place. The University of Oklahoma exchanged places with TCU and moved to eighth spot after beating Oklahoma State in last week's game.
Iowa State Cyclones finished at 10 after winning over its in-state opponent Iowa Hawkeyes, last week. The Hawkeyes continued to stay at 11th position in the poll.
The Louisville Cardinals, previously ranked No.22, posted the biggest climb of the week by surging six spots to No.16 following their overtime win against North Carolina, which was ranked No.12 at the time. Sunday's defeat pushed North Carolina down to No.18.
Conference Dominance
The Big Ten conference leads with 9 teams in the poll, followed by the Southeastern Conference, which had 8 teams. Both the Big 12 and ACC had 3 teams in the top 25. The No. 1 UConn is the only team representing the Big East; similarly, No.25 Princeton stands alone for the Ivy League.
