Dash cam video may show missing Texas teen as search intensifies
Authorities say new dashboard camera footage could show a 19-year-old Texas woman shortly after she went missing on Christmas Eve, prompting an expanded multi-agency search.
TL;DR
A new dash cam video possibly reveals the missing Texas girl Camila Mendoza Olmos taking a solitary walk close to her home on Christmas Eve. Authorities have declared her to be at risk and are asking the public for help in providing surveillance videos.
In Texas, the search for a missing case of a 19-year-old girl who vanished from the spot where the new dashboard camera video might show her walking alone just before she disappeared is getting more serious.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office reports that Camila Mendoza Olmos’s last appearance was early on Wednesday morning in Bexar County. Sheriff Javier Salazar, during a press conference, said that law enforcement officials had just obtained the CMOS video of a solitary person, which was taken by a driver going to work that morning and was only three blocks away from Mendoza Olmos’s residence, shortly before her disappearance.
Salazar, however, pointed out that the woman in the video could not be identified as Mendoza Olmos with absolute certainty and that it was only the clothing that the woman in the video wore that was identical to what Mendoza Olmos was last seen wearing. The investigators decided to make the video public, hoping that other drivers or residents might have similar footage from that time.
“This was the best direction of movement that we were able to develop,” Salazar said, adding that any additional video could help narrow the search area.
After her mother got worried about her not returning from what was considered a regular morning walk, Mendoza Olmos was reported missing. The sheriff’s department, which was concerned about her safety, said that Mendoza Olmos had been walking around the area more than once, but it was still rare for her not to communicate with her family for that long. The investigators also mentioned that she had left her mobile phone at home, which, according to Salazar, was particularly concerning given her active lifestyle.
Earlier security camera footage released by investigators showed a person believed to be Mendoza Olmos searching her car in her driveway around 7 a.m. Wednesday. The officials presume she may she walked away from home right after that, taking only her car keys and possibly her driver’s license.
The authorities have increased the search efforts to an enormous level; the sheriff's deputies and volunteers are doing the search nonstop. Multiple agencies are helping in the process, namely the FBI which is providing the technical support, and the DHS, which is keeping track of border crossings and international travels, Salazar mentioned.
“Missing anything is a definite no”, Salazar told the press. In addition, he said that the authorities were not ruling out the possibility that the case had extended even past the borders of the continental United States.
Salazar also commented on public speculation regarding the Immigration authorities and confirmed that the U.S. citizen Mendoza Olmos was not held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He added that the issue was validated to ensure sure about no confusion.
The investigators have confessed that Mendoza Olmos has gone through a romantic breakup recently, but they characterised it as mutual and have indicated no such thing as foul play around her. He said cops hold evidence serious enough to fear for her life, yet rules block him from sharing details now.
Last sight of Mendoza Olmos showed her in a light-blue hoodie with dark trim, matching pants, and white footwear. Anyone knowing something should reach out - contact falls to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
