Marvel superheroes, ‘Bridesmaids’ cast to reunite at Oscars as Conan O’Brien promises show will reflect world events

Hollywood’s biggest night will feature major reunions and blockbuster nostalgia as producers of the upcoming Academy Awards confirmed appearances by Marvel stars and the cast of the hit comedy Bridesmaids during the live telecast. The ceremony, hosted by Conan O'Brien, is set to air March 15 and is expected to mix humor, music, and subtle political commentary as the entertainment industry gathers during a tense global moment.

Producers said the show will include a surprise reunion featuring actors from the Marvel superhero franchise, though they did not reveal exactly which performers will appear. Executive producer Katy Mullan told reporters that superhero fans should expect a special moment celebrating the hugely popular film universe created by Marvel Studios.

Another highlight will be a reunion of the cast of Bridesmaids, the 2011 comedy that became a cultural hit. Executive producer Raj Kapoor confirmed that stars including Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, and Rose Byrne are expected to take part in a special on-stage segment. Producers described the reunion as one of the most anticipated moments of the night.

Host Conan O’Brien acknowledged that the ceremony will take place at a time of major world events, including war overseas and political tension in the United States. He said the show will not ignore reality, but he plans to balance serious topics with entertainment.

O’Brien said his job is to “walk a thin line” between comedy and acknowledging what is happening in the world, noting that his monologue is still being rewritten as news continues to change. According to the host, jokes written weeks ago may no longer fit the moment, so the writing team is constantly updating the material.

Producers also revealed several large musical performances, including a tribute to the film Sinners, which leads this year’s nominations. The performance of the nominated song “I Lied to You” will feature singer Raphael Saadiq, actor Miles Caton, and dancer Misty Copeland in a large-scale stage production.

Another performance will highlight Korean pop culture through the animated film KPop Demon Hunters, with singers performing the nominated song “Golden” alongside traditional drummers and choreographed dancers.

Production designer Misty Buckley said this year’s stage will feature natural elements, including real trees, as part of a theme centered on human creativity and connection.

Producers explained that the overall goal of the ceremony is to celebrate filmmaking while also reflecting the real world, making this year’s Oscars a mix of nostalgia, spectacle, and commentary on the moment the industry finds itself in.
