Shooting of 2 people by federal immigration agents in Oregon
On Tuesday, Portland became the scene of a shooting that left two individuals injured, involving agents from federal law enforcement. This incident arrives on the heels of another tragic event in Minneapolis where an ICE agent was involved in a fatal shooting. Authorities report that a driver attempted to collide with the federal agents, prompting an FBI investigation.
Two people were injured in a shooting involving US federal agents in Portland on Tuesday afternoon, escalating tensions a day after an ICE agent fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis. Portland police confirmed the individuals were hospitalized with gunshot wounds following an altercation with federal agents, with the FBI now leading the investigation.

The Department of Homeland Security stated the shooting occurred around 2:19 pm near Southeast Main Street. They reported that a vehicle's driver allegedly attempted to run over federal agents.

An agent fired their weapon in self-defense. The Department of Homeland Security identified the passenger as a Venezuelan national linked to the Tren de Aragua prostitution ring.

The two wounded individuals were later discovered approximately 2.5 miles away, near Northeast 146th Avenue and East Burnside. They were then transported to the hospital. Their identities have not yet been released to the public.

“We understand the heightened emotion and tension many are feeling in the wake of the shooting in Minneapolis, but I am asking the community to remain calm as we work to learn more,” Portland police chief Bob Day said.

Authorities confirmed that the investigation into this shooting is being led by the FBI. Federal officials also confirmed that the agents involved in the incident were from US Customs and Border Protection.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson has called for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to immediately halt all operations within the city. This demand follows the shooting involving federal agents. He stated that enforcement activity should pause until a full investigation is completed.

Speaking at a press conference, Mayor Wilson questioned the federal government’s account of the events. He expressed that public trust has significantly eroded.

“We know what the federal government says happened here,” he said. “There was a time when we could take them at their word. That time is long past.”

The mayor’s remarks were made as scrutiny intensified in the aftermath of the shooting. This incident has further strained relations between local leaders and federal authorities.

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek also shared her perspective, urging a thorough investigation rather than continued enforcement actions. She called for a “full, completed” inquiry into the incident. Governor Kotek stressed the critical need for transparency and accountability.

“The attorney general and other leaders have been clear about our concerns with the excessive use of force by federal agents in Portland, and today’s incident only heightens the need for transparency and accountability,” she said. “Oregonians deserve clear answers.”

State and city leaders have indicated they expect full cooperation from federal authorities. This cooperation is sought as investigators work to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The shooting in Portland occurred just one day after a fatal incident in Minnesota. In that event, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman. The Minnesota shooting sparked widespread outrage and protests. This incident has intensified scrutiny of federal law enforcement agencies nationwide.
